Q: What is your preferred environment for writing?
A: In my dreams it would be some sort of depopulated spot—an island or possibly a post-apocalyptic planet earth. But I will settle for a quiet room with a door that closes and a good view without any people in it.
Q: What punctuation mark are you fondest of?
A: I have a stormy, love-hate relationship with the semicolon.
Q: What punctuation, spelling, grammar, style, or usage error annoys you the most?
A: I chafe at nouns that have been turned into verbs. Who told people that "impact" is a verb? "Task"? "Gift"?
Q: If you weren't in your current line of work, what would you be doing instead?
A: I really love it when heavy metal or punk musicians say, "If I wasn't doing this, I'd be dead," so I'm going to say if I wasn't doing this, I'd be dead.
Q: What drove you to become a writer?
A: Total despair.
