Cary Tennis writes "Since You Asked . . . ," a Salon advice column to which I am addicted. He also conducts writing workshops and, in a past life, was a copy editor.
Q: What is your preferred environment for writing?
A: Home; second best: Java Beach Cafe on Judah & 48th Ave. in San Francisco.
Q: What punctuation mark are you fondest of?
A: Maybe the circumflex. (But that's not really punctuation, is it? It's a diacritical mark.) OK, exclamation point it is!
Q: What punctuation, spelling, grammar, style, or usage error annoys you the most?
A: Impacted; still not used to hearing that as a verb.
Q: If you weren't in your current line of work, what would you be doing instead?
A: Bike messenger probably. Or goon. Or doofus.
Q: What drove you to write?
A: Always wanted to. Since way back. 12 or so. Maybe earlier. Maybe 9.
