I always make sure to watch Scott Bateman's cartoons on Salon, but this installment made me hit pause, move the slider back, and stare at the screen for a second. Near the beginning, after President Bush says, "congressional leaders of both parties and my administration," Mr. Bateman comments, ". . . none of whom understand what the WTF is going on with the economy." Setting aside the potential problem of "none" being used as a plural, WTF is up with "what the WTF"? Is that a typo, or has "WTF" come to mean, simply, "fuck" or (to be more precise) "big, enormous, emphatic fuck"?
I saw someone describe this recently but can't remember where I saw it.
This is supposedly becoming the norm. I'll try to find the link to the article I saw.

Dear Joy-Mari,
Oooh, if you could find it, that'd be great. Thanks!
Sincerely,

I use "what the WTF" as a joke, as I do "as ASAP as possible." It has the added bonus of allowing me to use the word "fuck" without using the word "fuck," like the old cartoon word balloons that say "#@$&!"

Dear Scott,
Thanks for stopping by! I am starstruck to an embarrassing degree! And I totally buy your explanation. Thanks for providing it.
Case closed.
Sincerely,
-Ed.
