Art Plotnik, the author of Spunk & Bite, has alerted me to the United Church of Christ's current campaign. The sign below, which Mr. Plotnik photographed, exemplifies it. Mr. Plotnik found the sign at a church near his house. (Actually, I think I might be making that last bit up.)
The United Church of Christ writes that the theme "was inspired by a love note written by the late, great comedienne Gracie Allen to her husband -appropriately enough- George 'Oh God' Burns. 'Never put a period where God has put a comma,' Gracie wrote."
Daily Kos has already published an interesting post on this campaign and the politics behind it. I'll just say this: (1) Big ups to the United Church of Christ for having fun with punctuation and for embracing the GLTB crowd. (2) If God's comma is his signal that he has more to say, then God's exclamation point must be flies, locusts, or (my personal favorite) frogs. It might also be what happens to you after you've eaten matzo for five days, but that would just be cruel.
